Post Registration Training and Learning (PRTL)
Registrants must update and develop their skills and knowledge throughout their career. Employers are required by the Code of Practice for employers of Social Care Workers to support workers in the required training and learning to maintain their registration. The NISCC Registration Rules specify that within each registration period, a registrant must:
- complete 90 hours of study, training, courses, seminars, reading, teaching or other activities which could reasonably be expected to advance their professional development, or contribute to the development of the profession as a whole;
- maintain and submit to NISCC a record of PRTL undertaken (social care workers only);
- maintain a record of PRTL and submit a summary of PRTL to NISCC if requested to so as part of an audit sample (social workers only).
NISCC Is currently consulting on a Continuous Learning Framework and changes to PRTL for social care registrants. THis consultation is open until 25 October 2011.
