Post Registration Training and Learning
All registered social care workers must update and develop their skills and knowledge throughout their career. Employers are required by the Code of Practice for employers of Social Care Workers to support workers in the required training and learning to maintain their registration. The NISCC Registration Rules specify that within each registration period, a registrant must:
- complete either 90 hours or 15 days of study, training, courses, seminars, reading, teaching or other activities which could reasonably be expected to advance their professional development, or contribute to the development of the profession as a whole;
- keep a record of post-registration training and learning undertaken.
Where a registrant does not meet the PRTL requirements, their application to renew their registration will be referred to a Registration Committee. Unless the registrant can demonstrate mitigating circumstances, they could be removed from the register.
NISCC guidance on meeting the PRTL requirements, recommended forms for recording PRTL and answers to some of the queries received by the Registration Team about PRTL are available below. You can also contact the NISCC Registration Team for advice (Tel: 028 9041 7633)
