How to Register
This section contains the information you need if you are applying to register with the NISCC for the first time. It contains application forms, guidance and the Rules which guide the NISCC on approving registration applications. If you are already registered with the NISCC or one of our partner Councils (Care Council for Wales<, General Social Care Council and Scottish Social Services Council) and want to change your registration status, please go to ‘Information for Registrants’.
Good character, good conduct, physical and mental fitness to practice and competence are all assessed as part of the registration process. The ‘Now you are Registered’ information booklet outlines the commitment required from a registered social care worker or social work student.
Applicants must complete the application form appropriate for their job role. It can take 6-12 weeks to process and application. Your application may take longer if there are any queries regarding your criminal record, fitness to practice or disciplinary record.
To register, you must:
- Complete an application form in full
- Provide your birth certificate and a form of photographic ID like a passport or driving licence
- Have your application form and ID documents endorsed by an authorised individual
- Meet the relevant qualification requirement (dependent on the part of the register you apply for)
- Complete a request for criminal record check
- Enclose the appropriate registration application fee
Most social care workers will receive a registration application pack from their employer. You can download an application pack from the list below, or contact the NISCC Registration Team to request a pack. Click here for Registration fees information.
