Internationally Qualified Social Workers
The title ‘Social Worker’ has been legally protected since 1 June 2005 and anyone wishing to practise as a social worker in NI must be registered with the NISCC. This section contains information for social workers who qualified outside the UK and who do not have a ‘Letter of Comparability’ from CCETSW which confirms their qualification is equivalent. Social workers who qualified in the UK should select the section for ‘Social Worker’ to download a Registration Kit.
European Directive 2005/36/EC entitles a social work professional who is established in one European member state to provide services on a temporary basis in another state without undergoing the full registration process in that member state. Therefore EU qualified social workers seeking temporary employment in NI should contact the NISCC Registration Team for advice on the requirements to work as a social worker in NI.
The Registration Kit below contains all the materials you need to complete your application to register as a permanent social worker with the NISCC. There are two parts to the registration process for social workers qualified outside the UK. You must complete both parts to register. Alternative formats of some of the materials are also included. If you require advice on your application, or would like to order a printed copy of the application pack, contact the NISCC Registration Team (Tel: 028 9041 7633).
