NOS in Contracting Procurement and Commissioning
Skills for Care and Development is developing National Occupational Standards for commissioning, procurement and contracting. There are not currently any National Occupational Standards which focus specifically on this area of work. The decision to develop the standards reflects the key role of commissioning, procurement and contracting in delivering planned changes in services. The work is being carried out on behalf of Skills for Care and Development by New Directions Consulting Ltd.
Skills for Care and Development is the Sector Skills Council for social care, children's and young people's workforces within the UK . It is an Alliance of five organisations:
- Northern Ireland Social Care Council
- Care Council for Wales
- The Children's Workforce Development Council
- Scottish Social Services Council
- Skills for Care
Ways of being involved:
A key part of the development of National Occupational Standards is to ensure that they are an accurate reflection of the work which is carried out by those people who are doing the jobs. Another important part of development is to make sure that as many individuals and organisations as possible who are affected by commissioning, procurement and contracting, whether as users or providers of services, are able to contribute to shaping the final standards.
The development work began in August 2006 and is scheduled to conclude in Autumn 2007. The project team has already met with service users and stakeholders in Northern Ireland to identify what the new standards must achieve. The draft Units and Elements and a questionnaire on Principles and Values are available to download below.
