NOS in Health and Social Care

The Health and Social Care National Occupational Standards (NOS) are jointly owned by all the alliance partners within Skills for Care and Development and Skills for Health. The standards are comprised of core units which are common to all practice and augmented by a large number of additional units which reflect specialist areas of work. They have been in use in Northern Ireland since 2005. Qualifications based on them are currently available at NVQ levels 2,3 and 4 and they are the practice-based qualifications which the DHSSPS currently recommends for non-professional workers in social care.

NISCC is currently consulting in NI on  a review of the NOS for Health and Social Care.  You can submit your comments via our online survey at: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/CL5XVWP  This survey closes on 20 June 2011(midnight) . Your input will be taken into account when revisions are made and revised NOS will be available for your consideration during the summer. If you have any additional queries or comments about this review, contact Gerry Cunningham, NISCC Sector Skills Manager.
