NOS in Sensory Need/Impairment
Skills for Care and Development (SfCD), supported by many partner organisations with an interest in sensory impairment, is seeking to develop an entirely new strategy that will manage the way in which the workforce who support people with sensory deprivation can achieve levels of competence required by those people. This will involve the development or refreshment of National Occupational Standards and NVQs/SVQs for workers who support people with sensory loss or disability. The existing NOS and NVQs/SVQs in the Health and Social Care category will be reviewed, gaps will be identified and recommendations made for future qualification development.
Skills for Care and Development is the Sector Skills Council for social care and children's and young people's workforces within the UK . It is an Alliance of five organisations:
- Care Council for Wales
- The Children's Workforce Development Council
- Northern Ireland Social Care Council
- Scottish Social Services Council
- Skills for Care
The development work began in March 2007 and is scheduled to conclude in January 2008. The work is being carried out on behalf of SfCD by Grant Thronton. The project team has already met with service users and stakeholders in Northern Ireland to identify what the new standards must achieve. The draft qualification strategy and questionnaires for both stakeholders and service users are available to download below.
