Qualifications

As the Sector Skills Council for the Social Care and Children’s Services Workforce in NI, NISCC is leading on the development of a Sector Qualification/Learning Strategy for NI. It is based on the research gathered in Stages 1&2 of the Sector Skills Agreement and will review the range of training and qualifications available for the sector. It will outline the current and future qualifications needed by employers to meet the needs of service users and workers.

NISCC is co-ordinating the project team working with the sector to develop a Fitness to Practise Training Framework which outlines required qualifications and competencies for various occupations and levels in the sector. The Strategy will address NI training and development requirements and link to strategies in the other UK countries. There have been consultations with stakeholders already and an initial strategy will be submitted shortly to the Sector Skills Development Agency and the Department of Employment and Learning (NI).

Further work will take place during 2008 to identify and take forward actions within the NI Strategy. Further information is available from Christine Johnston (NISCC Professional Adviser).
