Regulating training - An Introduction
Northern Ireland Social Care Council was commissioned by the DHSSPS (NI) to lead an exciting project to review the roles and tasks unique to social work. This review was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to identify the unique role, value and contribution of social work in Northern Ireland today. In Autumn 2008, over 300 people took part in the consultations which set out to articulate the full range of what social workers do and importantly, the difference they make in people’s lives through their work and interventions. ‘People Work Not Just Paperwork’ - a summary of what people told us at the consultation events is available to download from the list below. The original consultation pack and photographs from the events are also available below.
NISCC has submitted a further report to the DHSSPS which details the findings of the consultation on the roles and tasks of social work. The DHSSPS will now review the material with a view to developing a policy paper that sets out both the role of social work as a public service in Northern Ireland and what is needed to support staff to perform this role. It is hoped the DHSSPS will publish this policy paper will be in early 2010.
