Users and Carers - Introduction

The establishment of the NISCC and our partner Councils across the UK has been recognised as a groundbreaking development amongst professional regulatory bodies, which are usually run by the professions themselves. We are very different and were set up with service users, carers and the general public making up the majority of our Council memberships. It is vital for people who use social care services and for their carers to feel confident that the people providing services for them will meet agreed standards in their training and practice.

We are committed to making sure that Service Users and Carers are at the heart of everything we do. Service Users and Carers have been actively involved with the NISCC since we were established in 2001. Service User/Carer groups have been supported by NISCC staff to participate in a range of projects to ensure that workforce education, training, regulation and practice are developed to meet the needs of people using social care.

This area of work is still relatively new and we will work closely Service Users and Carers through the User/Carer Development Group to determine the most effective ways of ensuring the involvement of service users and carers in our work. These pages will keep you updated as this work develops.
